According to a techbro Big Tech newsletter I still subscribe to, the one defining feature of the Amazon culture that made working at Amazon desirable for many, is now gone:
Jeff Bezos forbade PowerPoint presentations very early on. PowerPoint presentations don't force you to really think through a problem or proposal. They are boring for listeners. Debating a proposal that even the person proposing it hasn't thought through, is a waste of everyone's time. Therefore Bezos required everyone wanting to discuss a new idea to write a 6-page memo.
Those 6-page memos are now written by LLMs.
Amazon is now back to square one, where people are thinking through their own proposals for the very first time *during* the meeting (rather than before the meeting). They are now wasting each other's time with lots of meetings nobody prepared, other than telling a chatbot their spark of an idea.
Empires always fall after they crumble within, not from outside.
