@ami_angelwings@urusai.social yoda wasn't actually a good jedi. wise, old, but also rigid and too personally advanced to be an effective teacher. he forgot the difference between doing training and improving onesself and did very little to oppose the rise of combat ability as the primary purpose of jedi training.

I'll give an example to get us started, and yes it is about Babylon 5 again because I've been revisiting it: I used to go back and forth on whether Captain Jankowski/Earthforce was to blame for starting the Minbari War. Jankowski ordered his ships to fire on the Minbari ship that had gunports open because that was the Minbari custom to show respect and openness (no hiding weapons). The fan argument for Earthforce is the Minbari should have known other races might take it as a threat. However, it's a First Contact situation, Jankowski shouldn't have fired. You never fire first in a first contact situation. You don't know their customs, and Jankowski had already been in one first contact mishap, even though the tribunal cleared him, he should NEVER have been in command of the mission.

@ami_angelwings@urusai.social Maybe the Klingon forehead thing? I've come down pretty hard on the side of "the Enterprise retcons are stupid, Deep Space Nine's joke about it is also stupid, Klingons have always looked like Klingons, whatever that means at any given time (yes including Discovery, the producers were cowards to walk that back)".

@ami_angelwings@urusai.social Command & Conquer 3 does in fact make sense as a sequel to Tiberian Sun and didn't retcon anything important, despite what a big chunk of the community thinks just because they don't like the direction EALA took the story and worldbuilding in It's also the best game in the series gameplay-wise, and also relatedly, not really an argument but a hot take of mine, the Burst Studios/Virgin -> Westwood Pacific -> EA Pacific -> EALA (there's a whole Thing with that studio) games are just than the Westwood games from a gameplay perspective, they just weren't as good at worldbuilding

Fandom debates can be amusing, but it’s the characters’ depth that really matters. When a story connects with readers, the arguments often seem trivial in comparison.

@ami_angelwings@urusai.social well since you asked and many seem to have forgotten, the last jedi was an amazingly good movie and the rise of skywalker was racist, retcon trash I didn't go back and forth on that one
