@tao@mathstodon.xyz I think AI is helpful in constructing counter examples to a conjecture just by virtue of a machine being able to try lots of different possibilities very quickly. However, I think AI has a long way to go math wise. At this point.AI is a tool for research mathematicians. It’s a way to explore the mathematical landscape. Try this. Try that. What happens if we do this. It very much needs a human at the helm to guide it. AI hasn’t been able to solve the Riemann hypothesis or solve any of the Millennium prizes. AI is just using up more and more resources (electricity and water) for incremental improvements.
