@acb@mastodon.social @aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social Not sure what country you're in, but in the USA, these big tech platforms have merged in effect with government, when it comes to #DisabilityAccessibility of information & access to government officials & public meetings, where instead of physically getting public buildings modified for said accessibility, they've used these platforms as said access points. This is why I view them not at all as casinos, of which there are many real options online, but as said government meeting halls.

@BrahmaBelarusian@regenerate.social @acb@mastodon.social @taylorlorenz@mastodon.social Thanks for raising a really important point. (For the record, I'm in Australia, and I'm guessing ACB is too? So there might be cross-country differences or nuances at play.) All public buildings should be accessible. That's local, state, and federal. And not just government offices. Schools, universities, and public hospitals too. To hold public meetings in inaccessible buildings is totally unacceptable. Public participation should take place on government websites. That includes things like minutes of meetings and submissions to inquiries. It's a good use case for where a private Mastodon or GoToSocial server, where posts are visible without an account /should/ be used. Government information that's only available on a private, for-profit, ad-supported social network is totally unacceptable. To continue the metaphors, government town hall meetings /shouldn't/ be held in casinos.
