I’ve just realised, kind of too late, that I should probably be blogging in some form my attempt to read every* Philip K Dick novel. Not that I have to or anything, but more to collect my thoughts for later when I stop being able to recall which one was which. I’m already a good number in so will have to backfill a bit.

Eye In The Sky (1957). True to form, after three chapters I’m starting to get a sense of what it’s about and already on 20% completion. Eight people get zapped by a bevatron accident and are in a reality where blasphemy is instantly punished by supernatural means and everyone in California is Muslim. Obviously it’s not as simple as God and angels are real though, as in Europe they’re doing Germanic paganism.

The Penultimate Truth (1964). Set in 2025, which was fun, we’re in post apocalyptic mode and the remnants of humanity are eking out a tough existence in bunkers, building robots for the war on the radioactive surface. Meanwhile on the surface, ad men with large households of robot staff compete to write copy that will perpetuate the lie to the bunker dwellers. I realised about halfway through this one that I’d read it at middle school, which would place it as possibly my first ever Dick.
