Spring has certainly sprung and the grass has riz.
This morning I did my watering duty for our community group at a site where our pot plants are being stored. It is at the site of another not-for-profit who are working hard helping people in the neighbourhood. I took a quick look at their back yard and oh my! How the weeds have sprung. I suggested our group do a very basic working bee where we rip up the weeds and mulch.
That not-for-profit works so hard in the community and I have noticed that one of their staff in particular is quite depleted from constantly helping others and has ended up quite cognitively overloaded. Our group has talked about this and want to help those caring staff. Dealing with weeds and setting up a nice, basic lunch area for staff should help them grab a few quiet moments in their busy schedules.
There are other groups like our little group. Each one is adding another layer of care, friendship and injection of fresh ideas and enthusiasm. These groups have sprung organically from residents who want to uplift our neighbourhood. I feel that with these grassroots initiatives our neighbourhood will turn the corner.
