Team USA's top scorer, Balogun, received a red card in the game against Bosnia. Which means he would be suspended in the next game. President Trump called FIFA boss Infantino. Now FIFA states without further explanation that the suspension is lifted, and Balogun can play in the upcoming game against Belgium. Following that, Trump publicly thanked FIFA for that decision. If that would have happened 2018 in Russia, Putin interfering with the world cup, the explosion of the media would have been immense. But since it is the US and Trump, I guess all is fine? @vrandecic@mas.to well considering VAR didn't even review Messi's stamp in the first group game... These sort of blatant inconsistencies & favouritism is what ultimately lead to full on corruption. FIFA is rotten to the core.

@vrandecic@mas.to I already had the impression that the US getting Bosnia in the first round felt a bit convenient… 😬

@vrandecic@mas.to Everything visible when you go to SVT, Swedish public televisions news website, is about this (apart from the side bar and one one line "Right now:" bar). Three articles (and a link to more), and three short video reactions (also with links to more). So i think you could say that it HAS exploded, at least in some places.
