@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop I only know 2 people who have played Hogwarts Legacy and they're both trans. I don't know how I should feel about that.

@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop "I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is."

@ScottEdelman@wandering.shop I enjoy the art, and I like that her fiction has given many children the reason to read. I find myself in the same place as I am with several artists, e.g. Michael Jackson, Mel Gibson etc, who’ve created entertainment that has real value to me. I don’t buy their stuff anymore because I don’t want to fund the hate that they promote. I’ll enjoy those movies or whatever art that they’ve made that I’ve owned before learning of how vile the creator is and I’ll share the knowledge of how despicable I feel that they are when I find myself in a discussion with someone who is unaware of the truth about their lack of humanity. We live in a world where some very creative people are also incapable of empathy and compassion, whose ability to promote hate is a separate issue from their art, but I cannot support the art knowing how much pain and suffering it funds.

@chaoddity@mastodon.social just because many people are selfish / can't bring themselves to care, doesn't mean you shouldn't tell it like it is

@chaoddity@mastodon.social @ScottEdelman@wandering.shop the more people crave for Harry Potter content, the more lucrative the license will be. The more people watch, the more they’ll be attracted to it. There is a galaxy of people out there that don’t really care for Harry Potter, and will be quite happy to ignore the thing completely, but can be made curious if people around them talk about it a lot, so Inm not sure « sharing everywhere » is the best strategy. Is the risk of getting new people hyped larger than the risk of already hyped people buying the thing instead of torrenting it ? Not sur it’s clear cut.
