Whenever I hear someone lamenting how terrible young people are nowadays, and it all sounds very concerning and very plausible, I try to ask if the young people they personally know are like that. Almost always: no, not the ones they know. The ones I know seem fine too. But a lot of people are deeply concerned about big, widespread problems they’ve heard are affecting whole generations out there somewhere, just outside their own social circles.

@mcmullin@musicians.today @inthehands@hachyderm.io They have their issues for sure. But I think the late teens, early 20's ones get it that its their own future they must fight for.

@mcmullin@musicians.today @fulanigirl@mstdn.social There’s always a whole industry of people making a mint off of falsely validating these ill-founded general concerns about Young People Today. Jonathan Haidt is a prime example in my sphere: lots of well-dressed-up writing that sounds informed and evidenced and is just a steaming shitpile.
