There's a non zero effort to configuring your machine to do python development if you are making a contribution to a product. If you are a python dev who uses linux as your development operating system - what are libraries that you have found useful to install ? I'm writing some documentation about it and will reference your contributions. Thanks [UPDATE] I took some time to write about memcached, and the tools I needed to install you can read about it here. https://rye.wentcloud.com/en/qode/installing-memcached/ #pyconus #pyconus2026 #pyconsprints #django

@rye@ioc.exchange Not sure if this is what you mean, but pretty much all my development starts with pyenv, pipx, and pdm. I also use ruff to linting and formatting, pytest and testcontainers for testing.

  • @rye@ioc.exchange I've for the most part stopped using (vscode) devcontainers. Only when there is nontrivial non-python dependencies, like a specific CUDA or ROCm version

@rye@ioc.exchange uh I feel like I must be missing something about the question, because the only answer that comes to mind is "whatever the project I'm working on depends on", but it's not like I'm consciously installing them myself, I'm letting tox or pre-commit or something do it for me. #Python
