I see #Microsoft #GitHub is now experimenting with rate-limiting #git. $ git fetch fatal: remote error: This request was rate-limited due to too many requests. Reduce the frequency of your requests or try again later. For more on scraping GitHub and how it may affect your rights, please review our Terms of Service (https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/github-terms/github-terms-of-service). …which is quite ironic, given it's my first "git fetch" in… an hour? But well, you sell #slop, then you get hurt by slop, and you use slop to block real people doing real work. Oh, and I'm actually using authorized SSH session.

@mgorny@social.treehouse.systems I've always advocated #sovereignty from github. It's so easy to host your own repos. Do PRs by email. You don't need all the additional web features. People are treating these features like virtue-signalling badges to achieve for their own ends.

@mgorny@social.treehouse.systems services like gitlab (either gitlab.com or their paid version of on prem software) have explicit features to make mirroring github repos easy.
