My rides are only a few hours but I'm going far enough that I would not want walk out/home. I use a terribly uncool seat bag as I don't like backpacks all that much, and after an unfortunate experience where I ran over a bolt and had walk home in my road cleats I have a rule that all bikes have their own tool kit that stays on the bike at all times.
