One thing that completely sucks about being a translator right now is that agencies offer me jobs "editing" machine translations (MTs) for well below half the rate I would have charged to just do the translation from scratch, even though the MT is terrible, needs major formatting changes throughout, and would require well more than half the work it would have taken to just translate the whole thing from scratch myself. In fact, doing it myself would probably be easier and produce better results because translating is, generally speaking, pretty much fun for me (I'm far from the only translator who talks like this), whereas doing a close reading of a contract and trying to carve out a good translation within the shell of a bad one is really, really tedious.
