@glennf@zeppelin.flights @sixcolors@zeppelin.flights the best I can say about Thread is it doesn't suck quite as badly as Zigbee. I far prefer WiFi-based solutions like my Tasmota-flashed UP211 power switches to these half-baked wireless protocols that literally don't have a range beyon 5m/15ft in my house without a repeater (solid 1930s British brick construction). I also had to buy a Raytac MDBT50Q-RXdongle that can be flashed with Nordic Semiconductor's thread firmware with the Wireshark packet sniffer software to debug what is going on, the provisions for debugging what goes on in these alleged mesh networks is abysmal, and it's absurd to expect normal folks to put up with this nonsense. AppleTV's thread support is locked down in typical Apple fashion, there are no controls to make it reliably play nice with an existing Thread network.

@glennf@zeppelin.flights @sixcolors@zeppelin.flights My Chamberlain garage door opener is so old, I figured there was no way I was gonna get Apple Home support. Found this Refoss dongle that acts like a bridge(?). https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08GG1H7TV Scanned the QR code to add it as an Apple Home accessory….done. Apple Home landing / status screen shows the garage door status (and the Aqara UWB house door lock - still amazed at how well that works) at a glance. And “open/close garage door" voice command works without bespoke shortcuts.
