Spent a very enjoyable & productive day on Friday experimenting with letter-carving under the guidance of stone sculptor & letter-carver Aileen Anne Brannigan. On the EMISoS project, we are analysing the palaeography of inscriptions on cross-slabs & other stone monuments but yesterday we got to experience what it is like to actually carve these letters using various different stone types, tools & methods, which helps us to better understand the development & choice of particular letter forms
