“The US has struck a deal with Venezuela to control more than 65 billion barrels of its proven oil reserves, Donald Trump announced.” Wait, the same Venezuela where the US attacked in the middle of the night, kidnapped the President and then installed someone else who said yes because they didn't want to also be kidnapped by the Americans? That person agreed, fully of their own decision making ability, to let the guy with the gun “control” its most valuable national resource? Same guys who have been diverting the money from “controlling” Venezuela’s oil to an overseas account that is not in Venezuela? So just straight up robbing a whole country at gunpoint? And now getting them to agree to formalize the arrangement? I have some questions. https://bbc.com/news/articles/cx2zlwe7qj1o #Venezuela #USA #Trump #Rubio #Oil

@fsinn@mas.to I am completely flabbergasted by how international media reports this like a "deal". They even, most of them, mindlessly repeat the honorific "historic" Noone makes deals onder gunpoint. This is just a neo colonial protection racket. Nothing else.

@fsinn@mas.to And they can't even use the oil, as all their refineries are set up to process #Canadian Heavy Crude

  • @fsinn@mas.to I simply cannot wait for this to benefit the people of Venezuela. I have friends there and they are struggling. So it warms my heart that good 'ol Trump, Uncle Donald among friends, once again comes through for the ones that really needs it.

@fsinn@mas.to Yeah, right. Thump always lies & nothing he does benefits anyone other than himself & his “small … energy” cronies. BBC: “Oil, gas and mineral lawyer Alexander Kuiper told the BBC the deal could be "very significant" but expressed some caution. "This is definitely a headline to help with oil prices," he said, but added: "What we don't know, is whether or not those reserves turn into actual investment, and how long that investment takes to produce results."” #fossilFools #headlineToHelpOilPrices #marketManipulation

  • @fsinn@mas.to journalists should know better, especially at the BBC, NYT... they constantly undermine or sugarcoat what is happening. I get it that they just quote Trump here, but why using the wording of a pathological liar as a headline? Journalists job is to report the truth, not being the mouthpiece of the US dicktator.

@fsinn@mas.to This message is primarily for American nationalists: for all those who consider the USA the best country in the world—the only land of freedom, the only democracy, the savior of humanity. They feel entitled to that oil because they are Americans. The rest of the world is a shithole.

@fsinn@mas.to It's worth remembering that Trump was banging on about democracy in Venezuela prior to the kidnapping of Maduro. Rather than leaving the administration in place, he should have let Machado, leader of the party that may have won the 2024 election and Nobel Peace Prize winner, form a government. She toadied shamefully to Trump, even gave him her Nobel Prize, but Trump prefers to deal with dictators. It was always about the oil. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Corina_Machado

@fsinn@mas.to You said: I have some questions. There are no follow-up questions. You've already asked the pertinent ones, pointed out the obvious, and answered everything. Full out dictatorship is what we're seeing. #USPol
