Walked down a neighborhood street I don’t usually take, passed a chicken coop, and said “Hello, ladies!” like I always do. Usually chickens ignore me, but these came bustling over and hopped up onto a wooden perch. They practically pointed at a box attached to the outside of the coop, labeled WHAT’S IN THE BOX? I opened it… dried mealworms, a couple inches deep. Turns out I like hand-feeding chickens more than I dislike grabbing dead worms.

@grrlpup@pdx.social Haha I do that too! There is one neighbor in Hillsboro that has chickens and also doesn't hide them behind a 6 foot tall fence. I go out of my way to pass that house when I'm getting around. Haven't seen any mealworms though, alas. Fun fact: mealworms are not worms at all, but grubs! They mature into this handsome beetle.
