I am unsure my teammate and manager appreciate that I sort of abdicated anything resembling technical leadership on this project to the teammate. In my defense, said teammate seemed to have made a bunch of decisions about how it should go and they want to do it while I was exploring possibilities, so sure man. You can have and own those decisions and responsibilities since you seem to want them.

I will also admit to being stubborn in my own way! We were given the project to “Rebuild and make a new X to replace the existing one” and I took that to heart, focusing on truly making new rather than adding to or decorating the old one. They seemed dead set on reusing the old. And it’s true, that will likely be faster to implement! But wasn’t what was given, and I also chafe under unfair time constraints while they seem fine with that. So by all means: set the direction and I will follow.
