@signalapp@mastodon.world Signal ist nicht unumstritten. Wer unbeobachtet/ungehindert kriminellen Aktivitäten nachgehen will, der soll sich bewusst sein, dass er immer beobachtet wird. Signal braucht sich nicht hinter Amnesty International, Ärzte ohne Grenzen etc. zu verstecken.

@signalapp@mastodon.world Mich beunruhigt diese Entwicklung auch. Viele in meinem Bekanntenkreis nutzen #signal und wären sehr enttäuscht, wenn sich der Dienst verabschiedet. Was wäre die Alternative? WhatsApp? Schrecklicher Gedanke.

Some German states already have Israeli Surveillance and Prediction software, now the awful gov under Merz wants to feed that.

They do not even understand, what is meant by digital "privacy" (we compare this to the guaranteed secrecy of letters, and digitally it should be at least the same privacy). Their stance is mainly populist, fishing for voters, citing crime protection. They operate on the level of 3-year olds when it comes to understanding digital technologies. It is very embarrassing and will diminish constitutional rights. @@Bundesregierung@social.bund.de @@BMDS@social.bund.de

@signalapp@mastodon.world If this spreads to the US, I will never allow any compliant app on any phone I own, even if that means not owning a phone at all. I do not now allow things like Google Play Services much less Meta's crap on my devices. A wifi hotspot and a laptop with Linux instead of Windows are completely outside their control, because the cellular baseband and the OS are on totally different devices with no shared RAM and no shared bus.

@signalapp@mastodon.world idea: start remove encryption for specific users from the German government and post them online for everyone to see... although this would need a fundamental change in Signal and it would no longer be the de-facto safe standard for secure communications nowadays.

This was already the case with data retention for telecommunications and the monitoring of IT devices via Trojan horses. Isn’t the whole point of Signal exactly to be useful inside these authoritarian regimes, with it’s end-to-end encryption? Then why would you pull out of the market, when the use case finally has it’s time to shine? Seems when the water gets too hot, you leave.
