did you think about automating even the switching of the brightness? HA could do this based on the day-night cycle, dawn, etc. or it could also work with a room brightness detector

Hah, great question. I did. And then I realized, this only works if the TV is on the moment the switch happens. Which in the evening is actually pretty commonly the case… But never in the morning.
