@mendel@hachyderm.io I make it 1998 also. “Until a couple of years ago… Lately teams play some games against the other league…” Interleague play started in 1997. Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's record in 1995, and McGwire broke Maris's record in 1998. baseball-reference puts Maddux at #7 on the list of most valuable right-handers, but two of the players ahead of him (Young and Nichols) were active in the 19th century.
