Hm maybe my English is bad, I was going off en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regret definition: Regret is the emotion of wishing one had made a different decision in the past, because the consequences of the decision one did make were unfavorable. So in the context of your response, it seemed to mean “I could have decided to let Trump die, but I didn’t. I regret that decision.”
