@marintkael@mastodon.social This is the part people keep eliding. Hit rate is a traffic metric. Whether your wording survived into the answer is a product metric. Until those get measured separately, every claim about AI search traffic is half a number.

the second one is also the harder one to instrument. a crawler hit lands in your own log, but whether your phrasing survived into an answer only exists in someone else's session, and it moves between two identical prompts. the only handle I have on it is asking the same question repeatedly and counting how often my own wording comes back. that is a sampling number, not a measurement, and it deserves to be reported as one.
