@ahltorp@mastodon.nu @ibboard@hachyderm.io @markwyner@mas.to Well id want to understand how a group of 4 year olds say were able to gather in a public space without any adults. In a physical space we can assess the approximate age of any person by sight. This is completely impossible online without some form of age verification. We don't generally accept that children are free to go outside alone. If you, or anyone, saw a 4 year old wandering around outside on their own I would hope you would alert the authorities. It is fundamental to the social contract that we look after children. We wouldn't, and shouldn't, say 'its the parents responsibility' if a child is unsupervised in a potentially dangerous situation and we shouldnt do the same online.

@romli@social.vivaldi.net @ibboard@hachyderm.io @markwyner@mas.to "We don't generally accept that children are free to go outside alone." This, here, is exactly the problem. Why are you surprised that children don't "go out and play" if you explicitly forbid them to go out and play? If children can't have any independence from their parents, they will never be able to be independent. The weaning needs to be gradual, not sudden at 18 years of age.
