My brain does not seem to be able to understand left and right. It always takes me a extra moment to remember which is which. Up/down is fine. Cardinal east/west is fine. But not left or right.
The sorts of things that trip me up the most in math seem to foundationally come back to getting left/right mixed up, or like some duality that has some kind of left/right direction implied with it. Number line operations, cartesian transformations, function composition, sine/cosine, domain/codomain, come to mind.
It's almost at a point where I'm wondering about alternative ways to present these concepts with less implicit horizontal direction built into it. I think my up/down sense of direction is better (thanks gravity?), so maybe there's something with vertical equivalents?
