@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social as penance for getting everyone excited that #crows do mutual aid, but the truthfulness of the story being on thin ice, here's a story of crows leaving #art (!?) (but, again: don't believe the story automatically) and a link to an #Audubon article diving deeper into the topic of crows and their gift giving (which indicates an anecdote of a crow leaving a candy heart for the person who fed them. which *is* food) https://www.audubon.org/news/did-crows-actually-make-these-gifts-human-who-feeds-them #crow #bird #birds #corvid #corvids

@benroyce@mastodon.social yeah I'm *really* skeptical of this one. I reckon they shredded a bun themselves and threw it out there.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@mastodon.social I once had a seagull dropping bread in front of my feet. We just walked out of a student dorm with friends...

@benroyce@mastodon.social I worked at this shitty Palo Alto startup a decade ago. Venture capital money, so they had a well-stocked snack area. I would grab some cashews, go out onto the plaza, sit on a bench, and give them to the crows. Crows definitely liked that, learned who I was, cawed when I came out. One day, a crow flew up to a nearby branch, looked at me, then dropped... an acorn! Hey, a magical corvid gift!
