fr tho, i understand the sentiment. The US is doing its best impressionof a Supervillain and other countries wanna divest socially and technologically and economically That all makes sense. If Canada and Mexico and the entirety of Central and South America don't wanna cede the term "American" to the biggest country on either continent, that's a worthwhile endeavor. But they'll need a better, catchier, less obtuse demonyn for us than YooEssEeAn or YouEsshen. That shit is so corny we're already adding it to our processed food

As an aside. Shit, I'll post more selfies if it'll help but i need y'all to at least remember that I'm Black. I'm Juneteenth edition NaClKnight for a reason. I'm BLACK. Visibly, genuinely Black. "I can trace part of my family back to Chattel Slavery" Black. Melanated. PoC. The complexion of caramel and peanut butter. Black first and American second. My ethnic group is distinctly American, a people whose identity and history is tied to this land and no other. I have no motherland, no old country to return to. The United States America is my home and i have no other, culturally or ethnically or geographically or historically. This country fought a war with itself to legally recognize my humanity and personhood I am a nigga. And if you can't say that word without looking around to see who's listening, don't type it either. But the stereotypical "Fat Blonde Cowboy Hat Assault Rifle Truck Burger MAGA American" you're thinking of right now hates me, a Black socialist American, more than he hates you. I'm closer. i'm easier to see and hate. He's had practice hating me. Hating me is a family heirloom passed down from pappy to son. Iunno, i read some of the anti-American sentiment is like "shit, bitch me too. I'm right there with you. This place sucks." And sometimes that anti-American sentiment feels like "Yeah but you know that if i moved to your city right now I'd deal with anti-Black sentiment, first as your countrymen mistake me for whatever local Black population you discriminate against normally, and then when you find out I'm American you'll hit me with the Anti-Black American 'guns and rap and drugs and gangs' discrimination too." Mastodon finna Mastodon regardless, so have at it, but I am aware of the nuance that undergirds "Americans suck" when the Americans you hate hate me too lol, and i don't particularly trust you not to hate me too, even if for different reasons

@NaClKnight@c.im Yeah, and the thing I also take issue with is that the US actually has the highest or one of the highest immigration rates in the world, not to mention the diversity of populations here, so throwing everyone from this country into one all encompassing term and using it as a monolith to villainize us annoys me because I know it is a specific group they are directing their ire at with the term that isn't specific enough. But I can't think of a proper one to describe it so I offer no alternatives here.
