Of course, it shouldn't be possible for an app to set a global shortcut unilaterally.

Shouldn't, but is 🙁. Myself, I had only encountered something minor of that kind, though, which makes me press ESC ~, rather than M-~. #Emacs @weebull@mastodon.social @mwichary@mastodon.online

@weebull@mastodon.social @mwichary@mastodon.online this overlaps with why I think macOS using ⌘ instead of CTRL for GUI hotkeys and leaving CTRL unchanged was the right approach. I wish Linux had a standard way to achieve the same separation. I also wish every layer had a decent UI to reveal which responses were proposed by which provider and which are active and prompted the user to confirm changes and allowed the user to make their own assignments at any time, and we’ve only got a small fraction of that
