Looking at #Conversations_im / #Quicksy in the Play Store and #Fdroid : It seems to me as if it takes much longer now until updates are approved by Google. Meanwhile, updates at F-Droid seem to get faster. Thanks Google and @fdroidorg for making it even more attractive for the average user to switch the store. Reminder: https://keepandroidopen.org

  • @eversten@social.anoxinon.de @fdroidorg@floss.social I've noticed something similar recently. I use CoMaps on an Android device (F-Droid) and iOS device (App Store..). It used be the case that the iOS one would always get new updates first, now it seems to more often be the other way round.

@eversten@social.anoxinon.de Consider installing Obtainium (available from @fdroidorg@floss.social). It allows you to grab releases directly from Git, Codeberg, or whatever as soon as they are posted. There's a bit of a learning curve, but templates for the more "fiddly" apps can be found on https://apps.obtainium.imranr.dev/ Having said that, I'm not sure if you can get Conversations via that route. I use Monocles, which is a fork.

@eversten@social.anoxinon.de and don't forget @IzzyOnDroidOrg@floss.social – where updates usually arrive within 24h of the devs having made them available. We also take them from the devs' releases, like Obtainium does – but with the difference of applying additional scans & checks on them, plus providing Reproducible Builds (meanwhile already covering about 2 out of 3 apps, with coverage still growing).

  • @eversten@social.anoxinon.de @fdroidorg@floss.social If you don't require F-Droid's software security audit endorsement, its well-known consensus, and its "known non-free" (proprietary) app removal policy, then you should not use F-Droid to update or download software.
