i'm just graduating college, i did an interview today for a (presumably entry level) remote full time hardware engineering role at a fairly small startup (10 or so people). at the end of the interview, i was asked how much in compensation i was looking for and i wasn't really sure how to answer, so the interviewer (who is the VP of hardware) said that if they decide to hire me the company could send an offer and i could counteroffer/negotiate from there if it doesn't match up with what I'm looking for. so my question is - how much should i be expecting to make at this type of position?

@b usually I will start searching for “title” + “location” to get a little bit of an idea. There’s levels.fyi , Glassdoor, and if your location has a site for builtin[xyz].com that might have a little bit of insight for you. Don’t forget to look at the whole package too, health insurance/benefits/options etc are also sometimes something you can negotiate.
