Kevin McCloud: "Why I’ll never buy another electric car"
https://flip.it/EX2GPw
I think Kevin is absolutely spot on about EVs here, tbh. Very clickbaity headline as he isn't saying he won't buy an electric car full stop- but rather a new one. In a nutshell:
Large EVs have sketchy environmental credentials when people don't actually need/use such a large vehicle (i.e., they would have been fine with a smaller car as they just do local trips only...)Buying brand new isn't necessary and is just wastefulEVs have stopped becoming green focused (recycled interior materials, etc) and more about luxury which is negating their green credentials.
I have to say, my biggest bug bear is the obsession with buying brand new. People complain so much about the depreciation of EVs like it's a terrible thing but it means they essentially become massively more affordable on the second hand market. You can get much more, for much less. Battery health anxiety is overhyped because research is currently showing that the batteries in EVs are actually outlasting the chassis that they sit upon- simply because battery management tech in EVs is so advanced for keeping batteries at optimal health.
EDIT: Updated to clarify what the headline actually meant.
