Sometimes it's just random, manufacturing differences, etc. Could even be from hand sanitizer/isopropyl. I ordered two WingSung 698 pens at the same time, handled and treated them both the same, yet one cracked and its twin did not. Similar story with some Jinhao 82 pens. I have five and one cracked but the others didn't, yet they all were in the same rack on my desk and used approximately the same amount.
