chat what do you use for monitoring your servers? i'm looking for something that's small, light, not "ai-native" (🤮), and is easy to set up to watch http requests and what caddy/nginx is doing with them, and optionally/ideally other traffic like ssh and wireguard 🔄 boosts appreciated #selfhosting #sysadmin #cloud

@outfrost@mastodon.social Probably not the answer you are looking for, but for web traffic, I use fluent bit to read my nginx logs, does geo IP lookups etc, and send them to Loki. I then have a Grafana Dashboard that aggregates and displays them. Additionally I have monitoring for my hypervisor via Prometheus. Nothing for SSH right now, but with fluent bit that should be doable I think.

@outfrost@mastodon.social Also probably not what you're after, but I definitely recommend logcheck for telling you about exceptions. It's basically a big bunch of regexes that will mail you every hour from a cron job with stuff it found in your syslogs that didn't get filtered out. Add more regexes for the things that annoy you but don't need further action.
