@mariatta@fosstodon.org I think the other use is to “warm up “an email address with legitimate email to then use it for spamming. There’s bunch of services that claim to do this, all which seem pretty sketchy.

@mariatta@fosstodon.org It wasn't clear from your write-up whether the ~ 30 signups per day were coming the same IP (or the same IP per day). Which I bring up because I have been intermittently seeing massive traffic on my office website from proxy networks, with no single IP making more than a few requests if more than one.
