generally, fedi folk are very concerned about anybody having a bad experience here. and obviously nobody paying for a server wants to be involved in a russian misinfo campaign. being told you are facilitating that by people way more knowledgeable than yourself is gonna freak you out.
but what are we really talking about, compared to running a blog with comments back in the day. you have to moderate. the more popular, the more work that is. are you hosting a community or being a media outlet...

I think they got in over their heads, but I hate that anyone would be scared away by this episode. community fedi servers are manageable. it's not a moderation nightmare, but you have to know what you want to do. I'd like all media orgs to run a fedi server that hosts accounts for their feeds but also accounts for all their staff. that would encourage use of the fedi. but then also collaborate with others if they want to support their fans in starting or joining a community server. /end
