My book 'Drystone - A Life Rebuilt' will be out in the US and Canada now. That's very exciting, but the downside is that the energy it takes to promote a book overseas is sadly not available to me right now, maybe ever. So, if you've been waiting to buy it, you can. If you've been waiting to order it into your library, you can. If you've been waiting to tell your friends who are reviewers at the NYT, you can ;) #Books #Writing #WritingCommunity #Reading #ReadingCommunity #USA #Canada

  • For potential readers, here's a little about the book. It is a memoir about navigating a fractured past while learning the ancient craft of drystone walling in the Scottish Highlands. Readers are a witness to both my undoing and the rebuilding that follows.

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot so ordering this for Melbourne city library in Australia. Super curious: do you talk about climate, and how much those "once in a lifetime" weather episodes that are starting to happen every month or so (or that's what it's starting to feel like) affect your work?

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot I'll definitely get hold of it. BTW, I was interested to see in Dhanakosa's newsletter that you'd done an installation there. I lived there (and ran the place) for several years back in the early days. It's funny when two different parts of your life intersect.

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot I know your book is about more than stone, but there is a community of dry stone adherents in and around the limestone areas of East Kentucky. Horse country, so farm boundaries have remained constant, and plenty of good stone. Stone groups even sponsor classes in the region.

  • @kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot Tiny detail but you might want to get it fixed. The book's synopsis on GoodReads contains: "in the space and silence, she was forced to confront everything she had tried to racism" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/231517194-drystone
