@grunge_fox@wetdry.world okay so i have ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/11-mic-effects.conf context.objects = [ { factory = adapter args = { factory.name = support.null-audio-sink node.name = "Mic Effects" media.class = Audio/Duplex audio.position = [ MONO ] monitor.channel-volumes = true monitor.passthrough = true } } ]which makes a sink called 'Mic Effects' then in carla, you have the rack, where you can add the plugins you want with the 'Add Plugin' button, and configure them by clicking the gear on them as for getting the plugins, i personally downloaded all these package groups https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Professional_audio#Applications but that's a lot and also with the assumption you're using arch, hopefully your package manager lets you install the specific plugins you want you can also always manually download plugins and put them in ~/.vst3, ~/.lv2, etc for a noise suppression plugin, i've heard decent things about rnnoise then there's the patchbay, where you hook up the mic into the chain of effects, and into the Mic Effects sink (you need to do this first before configuring the plugins in the rack, so that there's actually audio going through them) you can pipe mic effects into your own headphones or speakers in the patchbay to hear what it sounds like while testing then, once you're done, just set 'Mic Effects' as the default input device, or specify it in whatever application you want to use it in and now to make this persistent: hit 'save as' to save the current setup as a .carxp file then, through a systemd unit, or whatever you want to use to have something autostart on login, have carla launch without a gui and with the config you just made (and with PIPEWIRE_LINK_PASSIVE=true set) example unit that i use: [Unit] Description=Load Carla JACK host [Service] Environment=PIPEWIRE_LINK_PASSIVE=true Type=exec ExecStart=/usr/bin/carla --no-gui "%h/.config/carla/mic-effects.carxp" Restart=on-failure [Install] WantedBy=default.target if you want to mess with the carla instance running in the background, you can run carla-control and hit 'connect' at the top left hopefully this is good enough? if not maybe i can throw together a video guide when i have time i hope i'm not doing an xkcd 2501 too much
