I think that because the husband trusted in his wife/ghost, when he burned the fan it killed the bad guys, and the ghost promised to serve him when reincarnated. Then when the Taoist Master arrived to destroy the ghost, she ran to a tomb to die there. That when her ghost died, because of her promise, she was immediately reincarnated as a new bride for the husband.
