Men are active, they need pockets, they are too busy and important to put up with inconvenience, their comfort and utility must win over style. Men are the ones who look. Women are the ones who are looked at. Looking good must win over comfort and practicality. Women are supposed to exist mainly for the male gaze, which does not want to see gaping, bunchy pockets.
