What it actually does is give the whole #Android ecosystem a bad reputation.
People who were #deGoogle -ing because of spying are not suddenly going to go back to Google because they perceive "better security". Clearly Google thinks this and they are ridiculous for it.

google keeps acting like more control automatically reads as more security. for the degoogle crowd, that just confirms the exact thing they were trying to get away from.
