India is a country of extremes. The other night we went to dinner at a fancy spot, fancier than anything most places, but the power went out 14 times (I counted).
The streets are full of people in luxury cars alongside people in grinding poverty.
I’ve been coming here for 22 / 23 years; you see this in some places more than others.
I know people in Bangalore who make so much money that would be 75th percentile in the Bay Area. But there are also people who have almost nothing.
A decade ago I used to hear many visiting westerners say they couldn’t understand how the income inequality was so huge here, but I hear less of that now that it’s obvious this is an everywhere problem. India just has it at a scale you can’t fathom.
