This recent PlayStation and now Xbox system outage, that was blocking digital games (and even disc ones) from being played just proves that we're not ready for a digital only games world in the console space, there's just too much DRM around it.

@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place I insist on people getting games sold DRM-free digitally, or physical ones without sneaky DRM. Helps avoiding making his/her games vaporware. =D

It’s so strange that consoles are now seemingly the complicated way to play games. Maybe in the 80s you needed some know-how to load a game on a computer, or get the right game for the right computer, and so consoles were nice because people could put a cartridge in and turn it on. I have a PS4 and recently someone asked to play something in multiplayer, and I noticed I’d have to get a subscription first only to play with my friend. Crazy. ^^ @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place
