@blogdiva@mastodon.social @rejinl@masto.nyc Gibraltar is a different issue altogether: "Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession, and it was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar While Ceuta: "In 1415, it was annexed to the Kingdom of Portugal. After 1580, it was annexed by the Hispanic Monarchy, with the city choosing to stay Spanish after 1640. Ceuta belonged to the Spanish province of Cádiz as a regular municipality prior to the passage of its Statute of Autonomy in March 1995,[10] as provided by the Spanish Constitution, thenceforth becoming an autonomous city. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceuta And the actual Morocco regained its independence and reunified in 1956 under the leadership of Sultan Mohammed V. So they can't claim Ceuta, or Melilla either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morocco

@DBG3D@masto.es @blogdiva@mastodon.social @rejinl@masto.nyc More on this line, Ceuta and Melilla citizens have every political right than the rest of citizens in Spain. Just because it's in another continent it's not a colony more than Basque Country or Catalonia is. Or Canary Islands, that happen to be in Africa as well. Gibraltar citizens, on the contrary, have far less political rights than the rest of British citizens. For example, they can't vote in UK general elections. That's what makes it a colony much more than Ceuta.
