This obscene buying of political influence is purported to be enforced by the toothless #ElectoralCommission … ‘How are spending limits enforced? Political parties and registered non-party campaigns submit spending returns to the Electoral Commission. Parties have three months to submit these, or six months if they have spent more than £250,000. The Committee on Standards in Public Life has recommended that this latter limit be reduced to four months.’

@JugglingWithEggs@mstdn.social The Electoral Commission had its few teeth punched out by Tories and UKIP over Brexit. Lawfare aimed at crippling uncooperative journalists similarly. Nobody since then, certainly not Labour Together, wanted to put law back in place when it might disrupt their graft. And have spent years pretending they didn’t want to import the massive electoral corruption of the US, because they were stupid enough to think they could control it.
