Today in "What the hell, English?", I used the phrasing "damn if it is not fun" and had to read it back afterwards after people read it as me saying it's not fun when I clearly meant that it *is* fun which then lead me to go think about the root phraseology here, which I think is 'it will be damned if it is not fun', with the root assumption that things are not damned by default. So yeah. Idiom be weird.
