Hi all, this is a question for the transgender community specifically. So my beautiful, shy daughter has been actively becoming her correct self for just over two years. From my viewpoint she is gorgeous, with a tall lithe slender body, curves in all the right places and looks like a right Goth rock chick and I am so proud of her. She lives about 150 miles away, on her own and has experienced transphobic abuse when out. She is a very quiet person who hates to draw attention to herself. What have other people done to forge a new peer group and friendship group after starting to present as their correct gender? #trans #lonely

@Fizzfizzpopop@veganism.social In US, PFLAG did this for me (transitioned at age 56), so not applicable maybe but yes, finding support groups can be valuable. Also maybe as a parent find other parents and see if two young people who might make good friends need introducing to one another. That worked for my autistic son (who is all of 42).

  • @Fizzfizzpopop@veganism.social I'd try to find a local-ish pride group. I'm in the Washington, DC area so we do have multiple such groups here. Most of them have meetings designed specifically for trans folks. The events that I lead (board games, and neuroqueer meetings) are not *specifically* for trans folks, but we still have good trans representation.
