“A proposal for the world’s largest data centre has been submitted at Chapelcross in Dumfries and Galloway. If approved, the data centre would have a capacity of 1GW - bigger than any other in the world - using 7 million MWh of energy per year, equivalent to over two million homes. If the proposal goes ahead, the data centre will put a massive strain on Dumfries and Galloway’s energy grid and destroy the local natural environment. We need your help to reject this proposal.” https://greens.scot/ChapelcrossDataCentre #DataCentres #DataCentre #DataCenter #DataCenters #ChapelcrossDataCentre #Scotland #ScottishGreens #GreenParty #Green #Greens #ClimateChange #Climate #ClimateEmergency #ClimateCrisis @ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot

@a@beige.party @ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot Not much use if you have to live in the UK to sign, in spite of data centres affecting the environment for the whole world.

@a@beige.party @ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot It's an brownfield site with existing grid connection, and in a region which tends to have plenty of water for cooling. (I've been on holidays around there; I know how it rains.) It's not the daftest location for a datacentre, not by a long stretch. Which isn't to say it's commercially sane; it probably isn't (knowing about the datacentre bubble). Focus on that side to really put the pressure on to stop it.
