My brother ran a construction company for many years and he told me it was a constant struggle to get his work crews to wear any of the protective gear they needed to wear to work with hazardous materials. Even after covid, It’s still amazing to me how people will throw away their health in the future for momentary convenience now. Future-discounting is a flaw in our collective psyche. #Toronto #AQI

@jvschrag@hachyderm.io This. Daniel Kahneman called climate collapse and COVID the perfect enemy of human psyche; slow moving, invisible, critical issues that evade all our evolutionary tricks. Truly, "what you see is all there is."

@jvschrag@hachyderm.io I was watching a Youtube video of an auto bodyshop worker in Singapore (a country where they are stricter on health and safety). I'd noticed whilst he was wearing a mask when painting, it wasn't the full spec for isocyanate based paints, and in later videos I could hear him wheezing whilst speaking. He was in his 40s/50s, working in a family business with his dad. This shop has since closed down, and I fully suspect they would have quit due to health problems..
