When I build projects that involve hardware, the outcome is usually ugly af (remember my “bomb edition” #PicoGopher?). I think the reason is me always going for the quickest and dirtiest solution until the result looks like a mix of the inventions of the protagonist’s dad in Gremlins and those by Data from the Goonies. This BTW is probably the worst-looking one (courtesy of “La focaccia del marinaio” which provided the plastic scaffolding)

In case you wonder, it’s just a pi5 with a v1.3 camera module which I am using for a rock-paper-scissors game (you play against the computer by gesturing in front of the camera). I am preparing this for a workshop where we show how “AI” (we still used to call this ML!) can be used on small hw to do something fun. A RPS hands dataset is freely available 💙 and a YOLO11 model can be trained on my M3 Mac in 150 minutes, so we’ll be able to show some training/eval during the workshop too.
