We have lost everything…
We have lost so much of what we once believed would always be a part of our lives. We have lost things we never imagined we would have to live without.
And yet, I believe there is one thing the war has not been able to take from us: our ability to love others and to try to help them, even when we ourselves are desperately in need of help.
Today, I joined my doctor in handing out some sweets and biscuits to the sick children at the children’s hospital. I did not have much to give them. I am also living through hardship and carrying more exhaustion than I can bear… but I was happy that I could help my doctor bring a small smile to their faces.
Perhaps we could not change anything about their suffering. Perhaps all we could offer them was a piece of candy and a smile. But seeing their eyes light up, even for a few moments, was enough to bring a little warmth back into my heart.
At a time when we have lost almost everything, we can still give something simple:
A little compassion.
A little love.
And a smile that tells others that, despite all this pain, they are not alone. ❤️🩹
A cup of coffee with milk was my little treat at the end of the day.
